I purchased this book for use in a university course entitled "History of Literary Criticism and Theory". The pages are tissue thin so some care is required when using this text but because there are so many pages, thicker pages would make the book even heavier than it is. A wonderful collection of essays that are particularly useful for those studying English Literature. This is my go to book when trying to find ideas for articles and research papers. There are also tables of context listing theorists by date and theme. It is helpful when trying to find a specific concept. They also have a wonderfully outlined index. Judith Butler, Freud, Aristotle, and many other theorists are represented. It takes fragments of texts from the world's best theorists and sequences them according to content. It is a collection of great scholarly essays. The Norton Anthology of Theory and Criticism But otherwise, don't do this to yourself for fun. It's cool when you need to learn about it for a class. Theory and Criticism is not my favorite, but the second time around I sort of understood these guys better. I had to take a class with this book twice because I failed it the first time. That's not a major issue, however, in an otherwise spectacular anthology of a vital subject area for any student of literature.
